The end of tipping in New York? Top restaurant group bans gratuities

And number of popular restaurants in the city will institute a no gratuities policy, although the news has been met with a mixed reaction

A restaurant group that includes some of Manhattan’s most well-regarded dining spots has said it will take the potentially revolutionary step in the United States of eliminating tipping.

Influential restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group will begin rolling out the new policy in late November, bringing its establishments in line with dining practices in Europe, Asia and elsewhere, where tipping is either non-existent or at most perfunctory.
