There’s been plenty of stories of restaurants skimming tips from staff for admin fees. What happens where you work?
The government launched a review last year into tipping, looking at 150,000 businesses – from hospitality to leisure services. It followed news that dozens of restaurants were exposed for skimming tips from staff for administration fees.
So what did it find? The results came out at the beginning of May and three main changes were suggested. Firstly, the report said that it needs to be made clearer to consumers that tips are voluntary. Other proposals include that there needs to be more guarantees tips are given to workers and that the whole process becomes more open and transparent.
